Fantasy Dr X: Strike Zone
Week 6 Waiver Wire.
May 02, 2008
Author: Antonino Buccellato
By Lawrence Barreca. Well, it's that time of the week again.  New players seem to arise with each game that they play, and now the young pitching is beginning to mature.  Here are my "Hot" Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 6:

Infielders:
  • Geovany Soto (CHC)-  I wanted to wait to see if Soto is the real deal, and now I believe that I have waited long enough.  Soto is currently hitting .333, with 5 homers, 20 RBIs, and 12 runs scored. Soto has been one of the top hitting catchers in the pros this year, so if he is still available in your fantasy league, pick him up and make him your starter immediately.
  • Clint Barmes (COL)-  Now with Troy Tulowitzki out until the All-Star break, Clint will move from the second base spot over to shortstop.  This gives Clint the perfect opportunity to get at-bats night in and night out.  Look for his average and his homerun totals to steadily increase as he hits more.
  • Scott Rolen (TOR)-  If you dropped Rolen earlier this year, it is time to go and pick him back up.  So far this season, he is hitting .316, with 1 homer, 4 RBIs, and a stolen base.  It won't be too long before those numbers begin to increase as he plays everyday.
Outfielders:
  • Mike Cameron (MIL)-  Cameron is finally back from his suspension and he is already crushing the ball after 2 games.  Mike brings a power bat to any needy fantasy squad, so if you need an outfielder with some pop in his bat, pick him up.  It also doesn't hurt that he's a starter and will be getting a regular number of at-bats.
  • Ryan Ludwick (STL)-  Ludwick isn't the starter yet in St. Louis, however, he sure is playing like one.  He is currently hitting .309, with 4 homeruns, 14 RBIs and a stolen base.  Keep a close eye on him in the upcoming days to see if he gets more playing time.
  • Wladimir Balentin (SEA)-  Balentin has played in 1 game so far this year, and in that game he hit a 3-run homerun.  Balentin has a big bat and has great power, so watch to see how he progresses through the week.  He could put up big homerun numbers at the end of the year if he gets the chance to start everyday.
  • Pitchers:
  • John Lannan (WSH)-  Currently, Lannan is the Nats' best pitcher.  He has not allowed a run in his last 19 innings pitched.  He has a 2-2 record with a 2.94 ERA and 24 strikeouts.  Pick him up if you want a reliable starter at this point in the young season.
  • Armando Galarragga (DET)-  The guy is good; I mean really good.  A 2-0 record and a 1.50 ERA helps tell the story of his success.  Galarragga has been the top pitcher for the Tigers this year and I believe that his success will only continue as the season moves along.
  • Brian Burres (BAL)-  Burres, along with Daniel Cabrera, has allowed the O's rotation to stand its ground as they try to find some consistency.  Burres is 3-1 with a 2.49 ERA and 13 Ks.  Burres has the stuff to be a good pitcher, and he's starting to show that he is one of the best (if not the best) starters in this rotation.
