Hanley Ramirez

Written by Paul Greco.

With names like Jose Reyes, Derek Jeter, Hanley Ramirez, and National League MVP Jimmy Rollins, whats not to like about the 2008 SS list.  In MockDraftCentral's Average Draft Position (ADP) Report, Ramirez, Reyes, and Rollins are all going in the 1st round.  This is a great sign for those who have a middle draft position.

I've mention it several times on here that scarcity positions like SS, play an important part in your draft strategy.  The great news about these three is that each is dynamic enough to help you in all five categories of a 5x5 league.  These guys are so good, that players like Ramirez and Reyes have all be selected as early as #1.

If you can't get one of the Top 3, no need to worry because the middle of the pack is serviceable. Michael Young gets 200 hits every year, Miggy Tejada will rebound with a solid lineup around him in Houston, and guys like J.J. Hardy, Rafeal Furcal, and Edgar Renteria can all handle the stick.

My Break Out SS for 2008 is Yuniesky Betancourt, the soon to be 27 year-old SS for the Seattle Mariners.  Although he doesn't hit many HR's or drive in a ton of runs, he's very consistent, and this could be the year that we see his numbers increase.  I'm expecting Bentancourt to hit between 11-15 HR's, drive in over 70 RBI, and score over 70 runs.

This player has to bounce back in 2008.  After being traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Houston Astros in the off-season, I'm looking for Miggy Tejada to have bounce back year.  Manager Cecil Cooper has already publicly said that Miggy will bat third, ahead of Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee, which will bold well for Miggy.  A great middle of the draft pick…if he lasts that long.
